Help school bring the Christmas spirit to needy children

Help make Laerskool Oosterkruin’s Christmas party for underprivileged children one to remember.

Every December, for the last seven years, Laerskool Oosterkruin has planned a very special Christmas party for underprivileged learners at the school and their families.

This year, the party will take place on Monday, December 5, at the school’s sports field in Clarence Avenue, Sunnyridge.

“We are 100 per cent dependent on donations and sponsors to help make this day a huge success,” said Anita Visser, from the school.

“Currently we have 65 children and 26 families, 40 of these children attend Laerskool Oosterkruin and 26 are younger brothers and sisters who are not yet in school.

“We believe each child should have a Christmas.

“These families are poor and cannot afford seaside holidays or even a decent Christmas meal and presents.”

At the Christmas party, the story of Christmas will be shared with the children.

There will also be jumping castles and a face painter to keep them entertained.

Each child will receive his/her own present and a sweetie bag.

“We hope to get enough cake for all the children to share,” said Anita.

“We need boerewors, rolls, cold drinks, cups and plates, and then we would also like to give each family a food parcel with enough food for the festive season.

“We cater for about 200 people on this day.”

The school is appealing to the community and businesses to get on board and help to make the day special.

Any donations would be greatly appreciated.

“We all can help to make a difference – starting with one child at a time,” said Anita.
