The weather has been anything but predictable lately with a cold front even sweeping through Gauteng less than two weeks ago. On Wednesday, the South African Weather Service‘s attention turned from cold weather to wet weather with a warning of severe thunderstorms being issued.

The Germiston SAPS are investigating a case of murder, after a woman was shot and killed on September 16, in Delville. Capt George Raphulu, head of communications for the Germiston police, said: “At about 11.30pm it is alleged the woman was followed from a pub in Delville. As the victim opened her gate a man approached her and started wrestling with her for her handbag.”

There are several traffic offences for which you can be arrested, including exceeding the speed limit. The speed limit on a road in South Africa is normally specified by a sign alongside that road. If no sign is present, then the general speed limits are: 60km/h on every public road in an urban area, 100km/h on every public road situated outside an urban area, excluding a freeway, 120km/h on every freeway.

A 19-year-old Selection Park woman dramatically escaped from her kidnappers, on September 22, reported the Springs Advertiser. Jodi van Heerden jumped from a black SUV travelling in Wit Road, towards Lodeyko, after she was assaulted and kidnapped from her house in Grace Avenue, Selection Park, on the East Rand.

It takes hard work and dedication, but Sgt Michelle Esterhuizen isn’t afraid to put in the hours. Not only is she an officer for the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (DPCI) or Hawks, as they are known, based at the Germiston Police Station, she is also a mother of four, a wife and a kickboxer to be reckoned with.
