Metro, businesses to tackle social issues

The metro wants to strengthen its relationship with the business sector.

The metro is set to re-launch the Business Chamber to strengthen cordial relations between the municipality and business.

This emerged last Friday at a business breakfast meeting hosted by Ekurhuleni’s executive mayor Clr Mzwandile Masina.

Masina said tying the knot with the business sector was key to tackling the social issues facing the metro.

“Our objective is to emancipate the economic state of the region through enhancing our ‘poor power programme’ to eradicate poverty.

“We want to also provide support to local businesses; and we seek to attract investments and provide job opportunities.

“We strongly want to support local products, especially those which are produced in township businesses, without sidelining big businesses.

“We want to ensure that we turn Ekurhuleni into a manufacturing site,” Masina said.

The business consultation engagement was welcomed by the local business community.

Roland Spiteals, operations director of Natures Garden, noted that the metro has embarked on a good path by involving the business affiliates in their strategic and transformational vision.

“This serves as a good platform for us to tackle the economic ills and improve the business hub of the region.

“We share the mayor’s vision and, therefore, pledge to work with the metro to massively shift the unemployment status of the country,” Spiteals said.
