Get involved in local tournaments

Local tennis academies aim to grow young local tennis talent through friendly tournaments.

Germiston tennis trainers from Ace Tennis Academy and Coached by Nel Academy, came together to host the recent Tennis Invitational Tournament.

The invitational was held at the Tennis Academy of Ted Roberts, in Edenvale, and saw young tennis players from Brakpan, Germiston, Edenvale, Kempton Park, Alberton, Thokoza and Katlehong participating.

The organisers hope that these types of tournaments will encourage children to pursue their passion for tennis.

“Due to a lack of support and organisation for leagues in the greater Gauteng East area, we, as coaches, have taken it upon ourselves to create a friendly and informal environment for children to compete.

“It is hoped that through these tournaments the children will be able to improve their skills, while becoming accustomed to a competitive setting,” Etienne de Wet, from Ace Tennis Academy, said.

The coaches hope to grow the tournament in the coming months.

“We also plan to keep the fees for these tournaments as low as possible, so that young players from all backgrounds are able to compete,” added de Wet.
