Police open their hearts to children

Officers from the Ekurhuleni West cluster visit the children of the Tshepong Stimulation Centre.

The children at the Tshepong Stimulation Centre for children with intellectual disabilities, in Katlehong, were thrilled to receive a visit from the police.

Officers from the Ekurhuleni West cluster stations were joined by the Germiston Red Cross and Women of Faith and Valour, when they visited the centre recently to donate food and other desperately needed items.

The outreach programme was just one of the operations hosted by the cluster during August, as part of their Women’s Month celebrations.

“We learnt so much from our visit to the centre, and it was a big eye-opener spending time with the children, volunteers and staff, and seeing what they have to deal with every day,” explained Sgt Olga Masethla, from the Ekurhuleni West cluster.

Tshepong Stimulation Centre manager Thabo Moshatane was overwhelmed by the support.

After the visit, the cluster officially partnered with the centre.

“We intend to raise awareness and donations, and to get the community and local companies involved in the centre,” said Masethla.

She went on to thank everyone involved in the day’s activities, including En-Van Wesig, for the vegetable donation.
