Writing for a better future

Lebea Sekhala, from Roodekop Extension 23, has written a book and is ready to have it launched in September.

Roodekop Extension 23’s Lebea Sekhala is happy to have accomplished his long-life dream.

Sekhala will be launching his first book in September.

“I started writing the book last year, in May, and by November I was busy with the final touches to the book,” he said.

“I have always wanted to be an author and have dreamt about it.

“I have written a lot of other things that were unfortunately never published.

“I have grown as a writer and feel it is time for me to write and accomplish my dream.”

Sekhala said that this specific book entitled ‘Nnete, Maaka Le Boradia’ (Truth, Lies and Deceit) was inspired by service delivery protests.

“You find that our intentions for the protests are good, in most cases, but the ways in which we conduct the protests are not appropriate,” he explained.

“As an example, we might be protesting for more speed humps but we go and burn a library.

“This is not right because once we have the speed humps then we stand with a damaged library.

“We are depriving our children of education.

“As much as we need the things we are protesting for we need to be realistic and fair during protests.”

Sekhala has taken the decision to self-publish his North Sotho-written book.

“The book is written in North Sotho because I am one for preserving indigenous languages,” he said.

“I want our children to always remember their roots.”

When inspiring the youth and other budding writers he said, “I want our children to dream big, so humble yourself and your will succeed.

“I am also looking forward to helping other up-and-coming writers.”

The local writer told the GCN that he is currently writing another book.

“I have already started writing my second book which is in English,” he said.

“For now, I want to focus on marketing and launching the first book.”

The launch will be held at Tlhakanang Secondary School in Limpopo on September 10.

“I chose this school as my launch venue because I matriculated at that school,” explained Sekhala.
