Tip-off leads to arrest of four

The Elsburg SAPS have arrested four men for allegedly robbing two businesses in Wadeville.

Two businesses in Wadeville were broken into, last Tuesday, by a gang of six men.

The robbers, finding security guards on duty at the businesses, approached them and four of the intruders tied them up at gunpoint, using shoelaces.

They were then robbed of their cellphones and one was robbed of his revolver, loaded with a magazine containing eight rounds of live ammunition.

During the break-ins, computers, a .38 special revolver, a LCD TV, a decoder and a CCTV recorder were taken.

Elsburg SAPS task team members started investigating and mounted stop-and-searches in the area.

Through these they received a tip-off and were given the address of the suspects’ residence in the Roodekop informal settlement.

The police went to the address and arrested four men on Wednesday.

“They were detained at the Germiston Police Station and are due to appear in the Germiston Magistrates Court soon, on a charge of business robbery,” said Const Daphney Phooko, communications officer for the Elsburg SAPS.

“Two suspects are still at large.”
