Two children murdered, bodies found in unused Germiston building

The police have arrested a man in connection with the murder of two children in Germiston.

The Gauteng police arrested a 40-year-old man following the discovery of two children’s bodies in an unused building in Germiston, on Monday.

The two cousins, both eight years old, were reported missing at the Germiston Police Station on Sunday night.

It is unclear how the children died, but it is believed that both children had suffered head injuries.

The suspect was arrested late on Monday afternoon and will be charged with murder. The possibility of additional charges cannot be ruled out at this stage.

The bodies of the boy and girl were found covered up in an unused building a few kilometres away from where they disappeared.

The police are appealing to communities to work hand-in-hand with them in the fight against crime.

Gauteng Provincial Commissioner, Lieut-Gen Deliwe de Lange praised the members for the swift arrest and quick discovery of the two bodies.

“This is a very difficult and painful time for the families.

“However, we appreciate their cooperation in finding these children as soon as possible.

“Without their assistance and that of the community of Germiston, we would not have been able to make such a quick breakthrough.

“Also, we are grateful for the assistance we received from the community as well.”

The police in the province are accessible to communities through various mediums, which includes the Crime Stop number 08600 10111 and also through sector policing where contact numbers are displayed on the side of the sector vehicles, as well as the Crime Line SMS number 32211.

The assistance and cooperation of the community is of great importance.

The suspect was expected to appear in the Germiston Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday.
