Explosive bouts expected at Fightstar 19

Fight fans are expected to gather at St John’s Hellenic Hall to watch Fighstar 19 bouts that are expected to be action-packed.

St John’s Hellenic Hall, in Primrose, will host Fightstar 19 on Saturday, July 30.

Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) athletes from all over Africa will compete at the prestigious event.

“Fightstar is Africa’s most exciting MMA promotion,” said Fightstar president Pietro Cignoli.

The main event for the evening will see Bokang ‘BK’ Masunyne go toe-to-toe with Pretoria’s Alan Visser for the bantamweight title.

Masunyne, who is the current Fightstar flyweight champion, trains under the watchful eye of head coach Richie Quan and is the firm favourite to become a double champion under the Fightstar banner.

However, after an impressive four-win fight-streak Visser is determined to take that belt back to Pretoria on Saturday.

“Fightstar is going to be another epic event, promising an action-packed night of entertainment,” said Fightstar matchmaker, Grant Oliff.

“It is exciting to see all these talented athletes coming through the Fightstar ranks.”

Fightstar also uses this event to raise awareness for the Fighting Fit Africa (FFA) community and youth upliftment project.

FFA promotes a healthier lifestyle, through encouraging participation in sports and fitness activities.

Fightstar events are designed to allow the athletes the chance to develop their skills in a quality professional-amateur (Pro-Am) competition environment.

It offers amateur and Pro-Am athletes the perfect platform to showcase their skills.

“We are very proud to be associated with the FFA youth development project, it is amazing to see the sport of MMA making such a positive impact in the lives of young people and the ability to discover talent that may otherwise have been lost, is extremely exciting,” said Fightstar director, Shawn Tyler.

All fights are sanctioned by the South African Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee (SASCOC) and Martial Arts South Africa (MASA).

The event will start at 6pm at the St John’s Hellenic Hall, situated on corner Lobelia and Wychwood roads.
