Local school gets a facelift for Mandela Day

Institute Status Acres Combined School children and staff were visited by Ekurhuleni’s executive mayor, Clr Mondli Gungubele, on Mandela Day.

Ekurhuleni’s executive mayor, Clr Mondli Gungubele, visited Institute Status Acres Combined School last Monday, for Mandela Day.

Gungubele opened the activities of the day with a speech and said; “You must defend every South African whether they are black or white because that is what Mandela went to prison for.

“He went to prison so that all South Africans can live together, and that can’t be done by people who are not educated.

“You are here to be educated so that you can build a world of clarity, light, peace and prosperity.”

The local school’s chief executive officer (CEO), Ntende Masondo, expressed his feelings of gratitude to the GCN.

“I am very pleased and honoured that through our hard work producing excellent results, the metro has finally recognised the efforts,” he said.

“The metro has committed to making our school better and as of today, they will be sending out different teams to repair and fix our school.

“Among other things, teams will be sent out for tree felling and cleaning.”

Masondo was also pleased with the new toilets the school received.

“Our toilets were not in a condition that was acceptable, especially for children,” he said.

“Through a partnership between the metro and our corporate partners we were able to renovate and refurbish our toilets.

“Our children will have cleaner toilets to use.

“We are very grateful.”

A new kitchen was also among the school’s developments.
