Good working relationship yields arrest

A man was arrested after he and his accomplices were spotted allegedly trying to break into a house.

Thanks to the quick thinking of a local security company officer, a man is behind bars for allegedly attempting to break into a house.

The incident took place on July 6 at about 5.24pm in Delport Street, Elsburg.

The security officer from SWS Security was driving along the street on his way to pick up a colleague when he noticed a man trying to break through the security door of a house in the street.

He approached the three suspects and they fled on foot.

The security officer gave chase and managed to catch one of the men.

The 29-year-old man was arrested by the Elsburg SAPS and detained at the Germiston Police Station.

He is due to appear in the Germiston Magistrate’s Court soon to face a charge of attempted residential burglary.

Elsburg SAPS station commander Lieut-Col Phiwe Ndwandwe initiated a partnership between the SAPS and local security companies in June.

“Since the partnership was implemented it has brought about a positive attitude, good relationship and an effort to work together from both the police and the security companies,” said Const Daphney Phooko, communications officer for the Elsburg SAPS.

“Working together brings positive results and a zero tolerance towards crime.”
