Head-on collision kills four, injures six
DEMS services rushed to the scene of a fatal accident near Katlehong, on Sunday.
Four people were killed and six others critically injured in an accident involving two light motor vehicles, on Sunday at 3am.
The collision took place on Thutong Road which links Katlehong and Vosloorus.
Two of the critically injured patients were still trapped in one of the vehicles (a white BMW sedan) involved when rescue teams arrived on scene.
Specialised rescue tools (Jaws of Life) had to be used to access and free the patients.
“Three patients from the BMW sedan were declared dead on scene and the other fatality was from the Toyota Conquest hatchback,” said William Ntladi, district manager media liaison for Ekurhuleni Disaster and Emergency Management Services (DEMS).
“All the injured patients were transported to Thelle Mogoerane Regional Hospital in Vosloorus in ambulances.”
The road was closed to traffic for the duration of the emergency work on the accident scene, until EMPD officers had completed their investigation.
