Two men, aged 24 and 25 respectively, were arrested by the Primrose police recently and charged with the possession of an unlicensed firearm.
The arrests were made after police received a tip-off from a Delport informal settlement resident who claimed he’d seen the men with what he believed were unlicensed firearms.
The informant took the officers to the shack where the men lived.
“The officers introduced themselves and asked to search the shack,” said Sgt Styles Maome, communications officer for the Primrose police.
“During the search one toy gun and a firearm were found.
“The firearm’s serial number was run and it was discovered that it had belonged to someone who lived in Germiston.”
Neither of the accused could clearly explain why they had the firearm and they were arrested.
Both suspects appeared in the Germiston Magistrate’s Court where their case was postponed for a bail application.
