Tebbutt’s tackles Arnold Classic

Members from the Tebbutt’s Mixed Martial Arts Academy recently competed at the Arnold Classic held in Sandton.

Lambton’s Tebbutt’s Mixed Martial Arts Academy recently competed in the Arnold Classic, at the Sandton Convention Centre.

This was the first time the competition had come to the African continent and athletes and spectators were treated to a complete multi-sport programme, involving more than 43 sporting disciplines, exhibitions and championships, as well as a fitness expo dedicated to healthy lifestyles.

Seven of the academy’s members competed in the tournament, in categories such as classic kata and points continuous.

Tebbutt’s members clinched three gold, four silver and three bronze medals.

After this successful tournament, five of the academy’s members participated in the MMA Edenvale, on June 4.

“It was a very good tournament and we were grateful for the invitation to compete,” said the club’s hanshi, Alex Tebbutt.

Attention is now turned to the next tournament, which will be held in Brakpan, on June 25.

This will be the last local tournament on the club’s calendar before nine of its members leave for America, to compete in the World Championships.

“I know my team is ready for the up-coming events and they will do well and make the academy proud,” said Tebbutt.
