Local school welcomes donation

Ekurhuleni Primary School received a visit from Maths Our World on May 30.

Maths Our World donated 600 pencils and erasers to Ekurhuleni Primary School on May 30.

“The pencils were given to Grade One, Two and Three pupils as those are the grades who mainly use pencils,” said the chairman of Maths Our World, Tom Shupikai.

“During this time of the year pupils are busy with mid-year exams and tests and it is sad to find children not writing exams because their parents can’t afford a pencil.

“It is for that reason that we have taken it upon ourselves, as an organisation, to donate these pencils to the school.”

Shupikai also said that the children won’t be taking the pencils home with them.

“The pencils will be kept in the classrooms for safety and to enable pupils from other grades to use them as well, he said.

“With limited resources we need to think of long-term use.

“The organisation is working tirelessly to partner with the private sector to reach out to the underprivileged pupils as most parents can’t afford to buy stationery.

“A big thank you to Cherine Delport, retail manager of Fellowes Beswick, for her efforts in making this donation a success.”

Shupikai added that more people are welcome to join the initiative.

“Our doors are open to individuals and companies wishing to partner with us,” he said.
