Vehicle theft syndicate uncovered

Three Germiston SAPS officers have been commended for their police work.

Members of the Germiston SAPS Reaction Task Team recently uncovered a vehicle theft syndicate.

The officers were acting on a tip-off, regarding a 21-year-old man who was allegedly dealing in stolen motor vehicle parts.

The officers went to the address given in Leondale and found three positively identified stolen vehicles: a red Toyota Corolla on a KwaTema case number, a blue Toyota Hi-Ace on a Meadowlands case number and a white Toyota Hi-Ace on a Sasolburg case number were found.

They also recovered a red Toyota Hi-Ace, a blue Toyota Hi-Ace, a silver Toyota double cab and a blue Toyota Hi-Ace engine, the chassis number of which had been tampered with.

The vehicles were taken to the SAPS Van Ryn Deep Vehicle Pound, in Benoni.

The suspect was detained in the Alberton Police Station’s holding cells.

“The Ekurhuleni West cluster commander, Maj-Gen Max Masha, congratulates Consts Jacob Lebelo, Isaac Mthwetwa and Meshak Mosane for their commitment to the SAPS and to the fight against crime,” said WO André de Jager, spokesman for the Germiston SAPS.
