The Elsburg police are warning the community to be aware of vehicle thefts and thefts out of motor vehicles in their areas.
They have issued the following safety tips:
- Ensure that your motor vehicle is locked properly and the windows are properly closed. Check them physically as there could be people using a jamming device and gate remotes which can stop your car locking.
- Avoid deserted parking areas.
- Ask car guards to keep an eye on your vehicle while you are away.
- Vehicles with alarm systems, gear locks or anti-hijacking systems are harder to steal, so get the necessary security.
- If possible check your car every hour to ensure that it is still where you parked it.
- Ensure that laptops, cellphones and loose valuable items are safely locked away in the boot or in another safe place.
- Report any suspicious movements around vehicles in parking lots to the police via the police sector vehicle cellphone numbers.
