Sexual crimes have increased – say police

The Primrose police visit Hoërskool Vryburger High School to warn the pupils about crimes affecting the area.

Members of the Primrose police recently visited Hoërskool Vryburger High School.

Officers used the visit to warn the school’s pupils about crimes of concern in the area.

Students were warned not to walk around at night or visit taverns.

“Sexual offences are showing a slight increase in the area, and most of these offences are a result of alcohol abuse,” said Sgt Styles Maome, communications officer for the Primrose police.

The children were also asked to encourage their parents to pack their valuables out of sight when driving in the area.

“Smash-and-grabs remain a problem in the area and children need to be aware of this,” said Maome.

“We will visit other schools and sensitise the children about the crimes in each of their areas.”
