Officers from the Primrose police and Family Violence and Child Protection Unit recently arrested a 24-year-old on charges of rape.
The victim, who lives in the Makause informal settlement, alleged that she was at her shack, talking with her mother on the phone, when she heard footsteps outside.
“She went to check who was there and found that it was her sister’s boyfriend,” said Sgt Styles Maome, communications officer for the Primrose police.
“She claims that the accused pushed his way inside and forced her onto her bed where he raped her.”
The victim’s three-month-old baby was on the bed during the rape and began to cry.
“The man allegedly covered the baby’s face with a pillow, leaving the infant’s face swollen,” Maome said.
The police traced the suspect and he was arrested and detained at the Primrose Police Station.
He has since appeared in the Germiston Magistrates Court, where his case was postponed for plea and trial.
