Provincial Championships coming up
The Central Gauteng Athletics (CGA) will host the first provincial championships meeting this Saturday at the Germiston Stadium.
Central Gauteng Athletics (CGA) has reached the end of its 2015/2016 track and field season build up to the SA Championships.
“It has been a great season for the CGA, producing great results in preparation for the championships,” said the organisation’s Mbalenhle Ngema.
The next event on the CGA calendar will be the Provincial Championships for the sub-youth, youth, junior and u-23 age categories, which will be held at the Germiston Stadium this Saturday, March 12.
The programme will begin at 8am and continue into the afternoon.
The event is an important part of the selection process for the SA Championships, to be held in April.
Ngema explained how the selection process for the SA Championships is conducted. “As per CGA selection criteria, athletes need to have participated in at least two of the CGA league meetings, plus the upcoming Provincial Championships, to make the team,” he said.
“The selection will be based on the latest Athletics South Africa qualifying standards.
“As a province we are confident that our athletes will go above these standards.”
The seniors’ Provincial Championships will be held next weekend, March 19, at the Germiston Stadium.
