An 18-year-old suspect has been nabbed by police for allegedly raping a 14-year-old girl.
The alleged rape took place on February 19 in Rose-Innes Street, Driehoek.
Germiston SAPS cluster commander Brig Phumla Mdlankomo praised all the role players, including members of the community, who played a vital role in tracing the young man which enabled the arrest to take place.
“The complainant alleged that she saw ‘love bites’ on the neck of her daughter and confronted her about them.
“The young girl disclosed to her mother that she had been coming back from the gym with her brother and the suspect and they took a walk to a nearby shop where they bought liquor,” said Sgt Styles Maome, communications officer for the Germiston SAPS cluster.
“They went back to their home and started drinking and the girl’s brother passed out and the suspect took advantage of this and raped the victim.”
The complainant took her daughter to the Primrose SAPS where a formal case docket was opened for investigation.
“Within an hour the information was on WhatsApp and Facebook.
“The suspect realised that he was wanted and he started to play a hide-and-seek game.
“An anonymous caller gave the Elsburg police a tip-off and the suspect was arrested and detained at the Germiston Police Station on February 22,” Maome said.
Mdlankomo encourages the community to work hand-in-hand with the police to fight crime in the cluster.
“Working together will make our cluster a safe place to be,” said Maome.
