Tip-off leads to drug bust

The SAPS and EMPD discovered a drug house in Elspark, thanks to a tip-off from the community.

The Germiston police cluster is continuing to make a major dent into most contact crimes.

“The members of the cluster are displaying exceptional collaboration in executing their duties,” said WO Mduduzi Nhlabathi, the Germiston SAPS cluster communications officer.

“This can easily be picked up in the pattern they use when crime prevention operations are implemented.

“Other stakeholders are roped in, such as the EMPD, patrollers and even the various Youth Desks at times.

“Together they push crime away from law abiding citizens.”

An example of this occurred on January 29, when the Elsburg SAPS received information from a member of the public that there were drugs in a particular residential house in Francolin Street, Elspark.

“The police did not waste any time setting up an operation that took place on the same day.

“They proceeded to the given address and, upon their arrival, they were welcomed by a mini garden that did not only have vegetables growing in it, but also big dagga plants,” said Nhlabathi.

On further investigation the police also discovered bags of dagga that had already been harvested and some in bottles, already flavoured.

Next to the bottles of dried dagga there were also 20lt containers containing a white substance, suspected to be crystal meth.

Drug unit teams from both the SAPS and the EMPD were called in and this resulted in the arrest of two people, a 36-year-old woman and a 37-year-old man.

They were charged with dealing in and the possession of drugs and are expected to appear in the Germiston Magistrates Court soon.
