Three smash-and-grabs within a day

Police and the CPF warn motorists to be alert when travelling as smash-and-grabs are on the increase.

There were three smash-and-grabs in the Primrose area in one day.

“The SAPS are warning that smash-and-grabs are on the increase in the area,” said Wendy Morgan, chairman of the Primrose CPF.

It has been reported that mostly female victims have been targeted at intersections on Pretoria Road, Stanley Road, Main Reef Road, Lower Main Reef Road and Shamrock Road.

“Please be very vigilant on these roads, particularly on corners and at intersections,” said Morgan.

“We also advise that you keep your window open 5cm, as a closed window is easier to break.”

Morgan further advised commuters to lock their valuables in the boot and to keep their cellphones and wallets out of sight when travelling.

”Be aware of your surroundings and don’t play on your phone as soon as you stop; if there is nothing to see to steal, you can avoid being a victim,” she said.
