Take note of these safety tips

The Elsburg SAPS are warning people to be aware of housebreakings and burglaries in the Elsburg policing area.

They have issued the following safety tips for people in the area:

• Beware of hijackings in your driveway.
• Ensure that you are not followed home by suspicious vehicles.
• Beware of people pretending to be buying houses as they are intending to rob you in your home.
• Watch out for suspicious vehicles and people in your street; call the police immediately.
• Do not leave gates and doors open.
• Install burglar proofing on your windows, as criminals break windows to steal your belongings.
• Know your neighbours, so they can keep an eye on your premises.
• Identify callers at your door before opening or allowing entrance.
• Neighbours should alert each other if something is wrong and switch on the lights in their houses and yards, so that the criminals know that you and your neighbours are aware of their movements.
