Metro addresses traffic calming needs

Metro responds to communities’ requests for speed bumps.

The residents of Marlands and Denlee want the roads in their areas to be safe.

They believe that if speed bumps were erected in their areas they would assist in maintaining the speed limit and lessening the number of accidents in the areas and approached the Germiston City News in November, last year, to find out how to have their plight heard by the metro.

Marlands residents would like a speed bump put up in the slip-way from Kraft Road into Barbara Road, to stop accidents, while Denlee residents would like speed bumps erected on Chapman and Whitford roads, with special focus on the corner where these two roads meet.

The GCN contacted the metro, as well as the ward councillors for each area, to find out what the likelihood of the request for speed bumps being successful was.

The councillors for both wards advised in November that a formal request would have to be sent to the metro for review before any speed bumps would be erected.

The metro in December stated that they are currently busy with the construction of speed calming measures, on a smaller scale.
