Metro to launch its 16 Days of Activism campaign

Put an end to gender-based violence.

The metro will launch its 16 Days of Activism for No Violence Against Women and Children campaign at Bulithando Park, in KwaThema.

The event takes place on November 25 (tomorrow), at 8.30am, at the park at the corner of Kgasoane and Marule streets in KwaThema.

The campaign, which runs from November 25 until December 10, will be held under the theme “From Peace in the Home to Peace in the World: Make Education Safe for All”.

Residents will be educated about the importance of breaking the cycle of abuse, and the signs and dangers of gender-based violence, with a particular focus on the militarism relationship and the right to education.

The Speaker of council, Patricia Kumalo, will facilitate a panel discussion by representatives from Sonke Gender Justice, People Opposing Women Abuse (POWA), the SAPS and individuals representing abused women and children.

Activities on the day will also include a question and answer session and exhibitions by the various government and non-governmental organisations that deal with gender-based violence and violence against women and children.
