Heavens finally open

Monday afternoon saw the heavens opening and a thunderstorm hitting the East Rand.

The heavens have finally opened bringing the relief of rain to Germiston.

The metro has imposed water restrictions throughout Ekurhuleni and the area has been suffering with drought conditions.

Germiston residents were also struck by a water crisis over the past week.

So for many residents the rain was a welcome relief to the heatwave conditions we have been experiencing.

The storm, however, also left damage in some areas.

Craig Venter, from Elspark, told the GCN that many trees were struck by lightning resulting in them splitting and falling over in the suburb.

“Roofs were also blown off and even trampolines were blown away,” he said.

Residents are invited to send us their rain/hail photos to germistoncitynews@caxton.co.za

Residents have sent us photos of the storm from throughout the East Rand.
