Podium positions for karate club

Katlehong’s Shorin Kempo Karate Club fastened their belts and showcased their talents at a karate tournament.

Katlehong’s Shorin Kempo Karate Club members took part in a karate tournament hosted by World Fighting Kyokushin Organisation at the Mandeville Sports Club, in Johannesburg, on Saturday.

“We had 12 members competing at the tournament and I must say, I was filled with pride and joy as I watched our local athletes in action,’’ said the local club’s head coach, Thulane Sibisi.

“The event was great practice for the coming Swaziland Full Contact Karate Tournament.

“We will leave for Swaziland on November 25, for the tournament that will take place on November 28.”

Sibisi also said his karatekas faced international competition.

“Our local athletes were competing against those from Zimbabwe,” he explained.

Results of some of the members:

  • Tshepo Kgoatse placed first in the u-70kg division.
  • Mosila Kgomo also placed first in the open division.
  • Sinethemba Qwenqa was second in the u-80kg division.
  • Thato Ndala took first place in the kata category.
  • Sibusiso Ngwenya claimed first place in the u-35kg division.

“The other members received participation medals,” added Sibisi.

“All the members performed well, irrespective of the different accolades, they all did their best and I am very impressed with all of them.”
