False promises lead to abduction and murder

Traditional healer abducted after false promises.

After a traditional healer’s promises did not come to fruition, a Germiston woman decided to take drastic steps.

She arranged for the traditional healer to be abducted.

But her plans went horribly wrong and the 51-year-old woman and her 21-year-old grandson were arrested and her son (age unknown) was allegedly shot and killed by a neighbour.

The arrests by the Germiston SAPS took place at 8.30am, last Saturday.

It is alleged that the traditional healer was abducted in Rabie Ridge Extension One, Tembisa, last Friday, after he failed to make the woman suspect’s dream of becoming a millionaire come true.

“It is alleged that he told the woman that, if she gave him R200 000, she would, in return, receive R10-million,” said Const Daphney Phooko, communications officer for the Germiston police cluster.

“The promises never came to pass so she decided to abduct the traditional healer, which, in the end, landed her in police custody.”

It is further alleged that the woman went to her cousin’s home in Rabie Ridge, where she met with the traditional healer and he was abducted by people she had hired.

The Germiston SAPS received information regarding the whereabouts of the victim, last Saturday, and went to the scene in Dukathole Extension Nine.

“Upon their arrival the suspects did not want to let them into the house, but eventually opened the door.

“As the suspects were busy talking to the police, the officers heard shots being fired outside and they rushed to see what was happening,” said Phooko.

“The police found a neighbour, who said he had witnessed two men pushing someone down the stairs and then found the man tied up with ropes and wire lying on a chair in his yard.

“He alleged he had fired two shots at the suspects, thinking they wanted to steal his taxi.”

The police asked the victim to identify himself and he confirmed that he was the traditional healer who had been abducted in Tembisa.

The SAPS members also found a man lying on his back in a pool of blood, with two gunshot wounds to his upper body.

His family rushed him to Tambo Memorial Hospital, in Boksburg, where he was certified dead.

The SAPS arrested the 51-year-old woman and her 21-year-old grandson on charges of kidnapping, and they were detained at the Germiston Police Station pending their appearance in the Tembisa Magistrates Court.

The 33-year-old neighbour was also arrested at a later stage, for shooting the woman’s son, who the neighbour had witnessed pushing the victim down the stairs.

He is due to appear in the Germiston Magistrates Court soon on a charge of murder.
