Inking a difference

Giving up a small patch of skin for childhood cancer.

The fourth annual Tattoo-a-thon hit SA,last Saturday.

The event aimed to raise as much money as possible for the Childhood Cancer Foundation South Africa (CHOC), as well as generating a record number of tattoos done in one day.

Germiston-based tattoo parlour Burnt Black took up the challenge for the second consecutive year.

All tattoos were a set size, based on an hour’s work, and cost only R850, of which R600 was donated to CHOC and R250 covered the costs of each tattoo shop.

Temporary tattoos were also sold at R10 each, allowing people who do not want permanent ink and children to be involved.

The artists at Burnt Black were in high spirits on Saturday, starting work at 10am and pushing through to 9pm.

The team set out to better last year’s donation for CHOC and, through the day’s tattoos, raffle ticket sales, keyring sales and private donations, Burnt Black raised an impressive R16 250.

The studio thanks Plasti Profile, Iscasoft, Lauren Noble, Amy Ackermann and O Cantinho Restaurant for their contributions.

Michéle Dalgleish and Linda du Plessis were the winners of the two raffle hampers.

Other Johannesburg tattoo studios who participated in the event were Fallen Heroes Tattoo, Jaded Ink, The Painted Lady, Adams Eden, Kustom Ink Rockstar Studio, Zen Ink Tattoos, Lenz Ink Tattoo and Piercing Studio, Buzz Tattoo Studio, Beneath the Surface, Rising Dragon and Aweh Tattoo.
