Dreams come true

Little dreamer trainer driver for a day.

The Reach for a Dream Foundation recently helped Lebohang, a six-year-old boy from Ermelo, to realise his dream.

The young boy, diagnosed with chronic liver disease, dreams of being a train driver one day, because he admires his uncle who works at Transnet Freight Rail.

To make this dream a reality, the foundation made contact with Steven Green and Shaun Ackerman, from Reefsteamers, in Germiston, who put together a special experience for him.

“When we got to Reefsteamers, Steven showed us around and showed Lebohang a steam locomotive, and told him he would have an opportunity to drive it,” said Siphumelele Mabunda, from the Reach for a Dream Foundation.

“Shaun then took him up and they drove around the balloon track, during which they explained what all the different knobs and handles were for.”

Lebohang was thrilled with his experience.

To remember the day and Reefsteamers he was given his very own cap and T-shirt, as well as a framed picture of the train he drove.

After his visit to Reefsteamers he went to Carnival City’s Magic Company.

The casino donated 450 free tokens that he was able to use in the arcade.

His final surprise was a Sony Playstation, which has given him something with which to play, as he is not allowed to play outside too often, because of his illness.
