A Marathon informal settlement resident was recently arrested by the Primrose police for possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
The 32-year-old man was arrested during a special operation in the informal settlement.
When he saw the officers approaching him he attempted to hide the firearm in a nearby pool table.
However, the approaching officers noticed what he was doing and retrieved the weapon.
The man was asked to produce a licence for the firearm and, when he couldn’t, he was arrested.
“Upon closer inspection of the firearm officers found the serial number, and were able to trace the owner.
“The owner explained that the weapon had been stolen two weeks ago, in Greytown,” said Sgt Styles Maome, communications officer for the Primrose police.
