GCN team shows their ‘green fingers’

Gardening fun at Germiston Child Welfare.

With spring in the air and in people’s hearts the team from the GCN were thrilled to visit the Greater Germiston Society for Child and Family Welfare, on Wednesday.

As part of the GCN’s community project, called “City News Caring for the Community” we set out to bring some colour and life to the gardens at Child Welfare’s offices.

The society aids many vulnerable children and families in the greater Germiston area and by helping to plant a garden the team hoped that the gesture would show the society that it is appreciated in the community.

A tree and lots of flowers were generously donated to Barbara Bouwer, the director of Germiston Child Welfare, by Majestic Nursery.

The nursery also sent Michael Rammutla along to assist us with the planting and show us exactly what to do with his vast expertise in planting and caring for plants.

The team was also joined by Emma Ngcobo, Thembisile Khumalo and Jumaima Makhoba from the Mother’s Love Forum, who work as professional foster parents for Child Welfare.

Public relations intern at Child Welfare Makobedi Mofokeng and Barbara also joined us in the planting session.

The team spent an enjoyable afternoon getting their hands dirty, learning the fine art of gardening and chatting and getting to know the people involved in making life better for the vulnerable children of Germiston.

The newly planted garden is set to bring a wealth of colour to Child Welfare’s offices.
