Police witness armed robbery

Man stabbed during robbery.

During a recent patrol on Pretoria Road, officers of the Primrose police’s housebreaking and theft task team witnessed a man being stabbed in the hand.

After they arrested the 22-year-old man, the victim explained what had happened.

The victim said he was walking along Pretoria Road and took out his cellphone to make a call.

“He claims he did not notice the man following him.

“The man grabbed the victim’s hand and took his cellphone.

“The victim grabbed the man in an attempt to reclaim his phone, but the man took a sharp object out of his pocket and stabbed the man three times in the left hand,” explained Sgt Styles Maome, communications officer for the Primrose police.

An ambulance was called to the scene to transfer the victim to hospital, while the suspect was taken to the Primrose Police Station.

He was charged with armed robbery and has since appeared in the Germiston Magistrates Court, where the case was postponed for plea and trial.
