Primrose police close illegal taverns

Three arrested for selling liquor without a license.

Following a recent increase in crimes related to liquor abuse the Primrose police launched an operation which saw three illegal taverns closed down.

Three men, aged between 36 and 39 years old, were arrested during the operation, which took place in the Makause informal settlement, and charged with selling liquor without a licence.

“As police we are experiencing a rise in cases like assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm, domestic violence and child neglect.

“We believe these crimes are a result of liquor abuse,” said Sgt Styles Maome, communications officer for the Primrose police.

All three suspects were released after paying an admission of guilt fine.
