The EMPD Public Order Policing Unit members prowled all three operational regions of Ekurhuleni from 10pm last Saturday to 11am last Sunday.
They were targeting drivers who drink and drive.
“Sixteen people were apprehended and will be appearing in court in due course to face charges of drinking and driving under the influence of alcohol,” said EMPD spokesman Wilfred Kgasago.
“Five were arrested in Katlehong and four in Tembisa.
“Vosloorus, Brackendowns and Brakpan yielded two each with one nabbed in Springs.”
Cases of drinking and driving under the influence of alcohol were registered at the respective police stations against the offenders who were subsequently released after posting bail.
They will be appearing in court as soon as the blood samples are processed and results finalised.
