Five arrested during march against crime

Five men arrested for business robbery.

While Primrose community members, CPF members, SAPS and EMPD officers took to the streets on Sunday, in a march against crime, a local store was being robbed.

It is reported that five men, aged between 24 and 42 years old, robbed the store located on the corner of Beaconsfield Avenue and Shamrock Road, at around noon, and made off with cash and cigarettes.

The shop’s owner was able to alert an officer from the EMPD K9 unit, who was involved in the march.

The officer spotted the robbers, making off with the loot and, with the assistance of fellow EMPD and SAPS officers, the five men were cornered on Rietfontein Road.

During the search of the suspects a bag containing cigarettes, R3 074 in cash, a toy gun, three sharp objects, a packet of cable-ties and a skeleton police docket were found.

The men were arrested and charged with possession of stolen property, which will be linked to a charge of business robbery.

They were detained at the Primrose Police Station, pending their appearance in the Germiston Magistrates Court.

Acting station commander Lieut-Col Frans Lepadima, who was in charge of the awareness campaign, thanked everyone who contributed to the arrest of the suspects.

“Not forgetting the organisers of the event, because if the event did not take place the suspects may not have not been arrested,” he said.
