Man arrested for stealing vehicle in Elsburg

Germiston SAPS assist in arrest.

Germiston SAPS officers assisted in the arrest of a 36-year-old man, on Thursday evening.

The man, who was arrested in Tedstoneville, in Elsburg, was charged with the theft of a motor vehicle.

The arrest was made when Consts Victor Maluleka and Joseph Ditabeng responded to a call for assistance made by the pilot of a SAPS helicopter that was in pursuit of an alleged stolen vehicle.

The officers travelled to Tedstoneville, where they found the accused, who matched the description of the suspect, on his phone in Olivier Street.

They questioned the man and he claimed he was waiting to catch a taxi to Germiston.

They continued to question the suspect and, during the interrogation, it is alleged, he admitted that he had taken the vehicle from Rustenburg, and left it parked in Egret Street.

The vehicle was recovered.

The suspect will appear in the Midrand Magistrates Court soon.
