Dagga dealer tries to bribe cop

Woman nabbed for selling dagga.

After receiving a tip-off about a woman selling dagga, an Elsburg police officer followed up on the lead.

He went to Nagington Street, Wadeville, and identified the woman, aged 49, by the clothes she was wearing.

“He introduced himself to her as a police officer and asked her if he could search her room,” said Const Daphney Phooko, communications officer for the Elsburg SAPS.

“She gave her consent and the officer started his search.

“While he was busy searching the woman told him she sells dagga and he found some in a plastic carrier bag on top of a kitchen unit.”

The officer informed the woman that he had found dagga and she offered to pay him R500 to let her go.

She allegedly also promised to give the officer money any time he needed cash.

“The officer arrested the woman and she was detained at the Elsburg Police Station.

“She is due to appear in the Germiston Magistrates Court soon, on charges of dealing in dagga and attempted bribery of a police officer,” said Phooko.

The dagga seized had an approximate value of R960 and will be destroyed as soon as the case is finalised.
