Great boxing action in Germiston

Packing a punch.

Friday night saw boxing fans fill up the Germiston Hellenic Hall is anticipation of the Fighting for Angels tournament.

With seven bouts on the card, the fans witnessed great boxing action.

The first fight was a junior featherweight bout, contested by Vusumzi Nyauza and Tumisange Kasa.

The bout was well fought and went the full distance of four rounds, and ended in a draw with two judges scoring the fight 38-38 and one scoring it 37-39.

The second bout, between Michael Mokoena and Lerato Dlamini, was also a four-round contest.

Neither fighters left room for analysis and both threw aggressive punches.

Although Dlamini seemed stronger in the third round, Mokoena won the bout through a majority points decision, with the judges scoring the bout 39-37; 40-36 and 38-38.

Clement Kamanga and Silas Sithole took to the ring in the junior welterweight bout, that was scheduled for four rounds.

In the fourth round, Kamanga punched out Sithole’s mouth piece then, after that was put back in, he (Kamanga) decided to end the bout two minutes and 38 seconds into the fourth round and won by technical knockout (TKO).

The light heavyweight bout was contested by Lewis Bukasa and Leron Miles.

Both fighters went into the rounds charging at full force and also displayed great boxing skills, with a number of accurate jabs.

Although Bukasa seemed stronger and was scoring more points in the second and third rounds, the bout ended in a draw, with two judges scoring 38-38 and one 39-37.

The fifth had fans witnessing action throughout.

Contested by Bongani Sewisa and Rofhiwa Moamu, the fight was scheduled for eight rounds.

Moamu showed his skill through his accurate upper cut jabs throughout the rounds.

Sewisa landed a few retaliation punches, some of which were not very successful.

He was seemingly tired from the fifth round, which was an advantage for Moamu, who had energy all round and kept punishing Sewisa with damaging jabs.

Though Sewisa pulled through to the last round, it was no surprise when the judges scored the fight 77-75; 78-74 and 78-74, all in favour of the winner, Moamu.

The 63.50kg junior welterweight saw Willis Baloyi, weighing 64.35kg, and Ntombeko Makulani, weighing 63.50kg, go head-to-head in the ring.

Baloyi won by TKO two minutes and 20 seconds into the second round.
