Man becomes a victim of hijacking

Hijackers target man in Wadeville.

A man making a delivery in Black Reef Road, Wadeville, recently, became the target of hijackers.

“The complainant alleged that he was driving a company vehicle, a Mazda Rustler, to Scaw Metals to make a delivery, when a white VW Golf pulled up next to him while he was stationary at a red robot,” said Const Daphney Phooko, communications officer for the Elsburg SAPS.

“In the VW Golf were three coloured males.

“One of the men, armed with a firearm, got out of the vehicle and approached the complainant on the driver’s side of his vehicle, while another approached him from the passenger side.”

The armed robber allegedly grabbed him and pulled him out of the bakkie, while pointing the firearm in his face.

The two men searched the complainant and took R200 cash and a LG cellphone valued at R8 000.

“They then forced him into the Golf and drove away with him,” said Phooko.

“They dropped him in an informal settlement in Lawley Park, near Lenasia, and he went to the Lenasia Police Station, where he opened a case of hijacking.”

The complainant’s vehicle had not been recovered and no arrests had been made at the time of going to press.

The victim was not injured in the hijacking.
