Resident furious with metro’s cable installation

Metro blames foundation for delay in cable installation.

A Dinwiddie resident, who wishes to remain anonymous, was one of many Germiston residents to be left in the dark recently.

He later discovered the blackout was not load shedding, but a power supply cable fault.

The resident claims a temporary power cable was installed at his home on June 10.

He has since asked the Ekurhuleni Metro on several occasions to come and install a safe and permanent cable. To date, this has not been done.

Metro spokesman Themba Gadebe said the cable fault is located under the foundation of the resident’s newly built house renovations.

“The cable was installed to make sure the resident has a power supply for the time being.

“The consumer was supposed to open up his foundation for council to fix the cable,” Gadebe said.

“Once the consumer opens his foundation we can complete the repair, however, if the foundation is not opened, we will have to install a boundary box and the consumer can then fix the damaged cable.”

The resident does not want to demolish his newly built renovation and insists his building is legal and has proof of inspections done by the metro.

The two parties are yet to come to a decision on how to move forward.
