Germiston’s drifters head for Rockmania

Rockmania Extreme happening at The Rock Raceway.

The popular Rockmania Extreme is back at the renowned Rock Raceway circuit, in Brakpan, on July 11.

Germiston’s Denis Palm and JP Taljaard, as well as other favourite racing drifting drivers will hotfoot around the 400m circuit in various disciplines.

The drivers will take on the drift gauntlet set before them by the judges.

Drifters from all over will slide their high octane powered chariots around the oval and gauntlet.

Drift fans are encouraged to make up supporting banners and come and show for who they will be rooting.

“It’s going to be a slideways affair filled with lots of tyre smoke and adrenalin to match,” said Abie Sada, marketing manager and commentator at The Rock Raceway.

“Plenty of V8 action from the Outlaw V8 Sprints cars and Lexus V8s will ensure all the high power thrills.

“A host of Oval Saloons Classes will also be racing including the 1600 Stock Rods, 1660 Modified Saloons, Pinto Classes and Super Saloons.

“Open wheelers will include the Ninja Kids In Racing SA (ages three to 12), Micro Midgets, 125 Karts and Formula 2 Midgets.

“High speed action from the Formula N circuit cars will keep you riveted to your seats as the saloon car drivers jostle for positions around the tricky race circuit.

“Legends Racing will also take to the circuit as the old-style late ’50s shaped vehicles, powered by a 1 300cc Yamaha motorbike, engine will also be screaming around the circuit.”

Sada also said entry fees vary for adults and children between the ages of six and 12.

“The gates open as 10am and the racing starts at 3pm, so come and support your favourite driver and vehicle manufacturer by wearing their branded cap, shirt or jacket,” he added.

“Food and refreshments will be on sale at the circuit, but most of all bring the whole family, including the grandmothers and grandfathers.

“On Sunday night (July 12), the Maxed Out Street Two Strip Drags will take place.

“Gates open at 2pm with racing starting at 4pm, bring your daily drive along and enjoy heads-up street drags in a safe environment.

“Drag racers are urged not to drag in the streets; become a responsible drag racer and drag at a safe venue like The Rock.”
