ATM bombers targeted the Absa ATM outside the Spar in Voortrekker Street, Elsburg, in the early hours of Friday morning.
Const Daphney Phooko, communications officer for the Elsburg SAPS, told the GCN that the bombers planted two bombs.
One exploded while the second failed to detonate.
The bombing took place at 1.30am.
The criminals (number unknown) did not manage to make off with any cash.
Phooko confirmed that members from the SAPS Bomb Squad disarmed the second bomb.
No one was injured in the incident and no arrests have been made.
The Elsburg SAPS are currently investigating a case of ATM bombing.
