SPCA animals get some warmth

Heaters installed in all kennels at the Germiston SPCA.

Winter is a difficult time for the animals at the Germiston SPCA.

“With no electricity in the kennels, and relying purely on donated blankets and dog jerseys to keep our four-legged friends warm, we embarked on a project to install electricity throughout our kennels, and install individual heaters in every kennel,” said Michelle Falgate, chairman of the Germiston SPCA.

“We are able to say with absolute delight, that this project became a reality through the help of the generous public who sponsored the heaters, Aberdare Cables and Crabtree Electrical who donated hundreds of metres of cabling, conduit piping, plugs, switches and other electrical items, and Clodach and Michael Da Paixao who sponsored the electrician.

“Never again will the animals at the Germiston SPCA feel the cold.”

The heaters, however, do not negate the need for blankets and every animal which enters the kennels needs a blanket, and where possible, a jersey.

The community is encouraged to donate these much needed items.
