When will metro complete work in Roodekop Road?

In December, the GCN began investigating claims by a Rondebult resident, who shared photos of the damage caused to the road outside his Roodekop Road home.

What he thought was a simple crack, after a bad storm in the area, quickly became a sink hole.

It was reported that metro officials had been on scene and closed off the road.

“The city’s contractor was on site from Monday, January 5, to start with the rehabilitating process of the sink hole,”said Seabi Masilo, media assistant for the metro’s department of communications and brand management at the time.

“The storm water department is also on board in assisting with the better management of water.”

Residents in the area have now reported that the road was repaired, but is already starting to crack, leading them to believe that the sink hole has not been repaired properly.

The road remains closed off, though residents are not sure why this is.

The GCN visited the scene and observed that, in addition to residents’ reports, two large holes have been dug on the pavement of Roodekop Road. These seem to have been open for some time, as vegetation is growing in the area and one of these holes has raw sewage at the bottom.

The GCN has attempted to get comment from the metro on several occasions regarding the repair of the road, as well as the two dangerous holes on the pavement, but none has been forthcoming.
