Man nabbed doing 226km/h on N3 highway

Man blames appointment with mother-in-law as his reason for speeding.

In an apparent desperate attempt to avoid being late for an appointment with his mother-in-law, a 33-year-old driver in a brand new Mercedes Benz C63 AMG was caught doing a breakneck speed of 226km/h.

The man was caught by EMPD officers on the N3 highway southbound near the Rand Airport Road off-ramp on Sunday morning.

He was arrested at 6.36am and charged with reckless and negligent driving at the Germiston Police Station.

The reckless Mercedes Benz driver was joined in police custody by four other speedsters who were caught doing speeds of between 186 and 161km/h in this 120km/h speed limit stretch of the highway.

The arrestees advanced reasons ranging from being lost to visiting a parent in prison.

They were all nabbed between 6am and 8.30am.

All the arrestees were released after posting bail of R1 000 each save the Mercedes Benz driver whose bail-hearing took place on June 1.

All the others are expected to appear in the Germiston Magistrates Court soon.
