The Elsburg SAPS is warning the community to be alert at all times.
Currently criminals are using the following modus operandi:
“The suspects appear to be asking for a lift (hitchhiking), or asking for transport to take items to a certain place,” said Const Daphney Phooko, communications officer for the Elsburg SAPS.
“If you stop, they then hold you at knife/gunpoint and rob you.
“The community is urged to be alert, as they will steal all your possessions.”
People are urged to be alert in the following areas: Sarel Hattingh Street, Brug Street, Heidelberg Road and Voortrekker Street, in the Elsburg CBD.
“People are also advised not to try to apprehend the robbers, because they are at all times presumed to be armed and dangerous,” Phooko added.
“Also be alert at filling stations.”
Report any suspicious-looking people or activities at your nearest police station.
