Senior football at Hattingh Park

Luso head-to-head with Alberton.

Luso Africa FC’s senior third side played against Alberton FC, at Hattingh Park, in Primrose East, on Saturday.

This was Luso’s sixth game in the First Easterns League and they had won two and lost three matches prior to Saturday’s encounter.

“The third side is more like a social side and, although we won the first two and lost the other three matches, I have a good feeling about this match, the team is in top shape,” said Luso Africa’s manager of senior football, Joe de Silva, ahead of the game.

Luso had scored one goal at the end of the first half.

At the beginning of the second half, Luso were seemingly more relaxed and were punished with a fine goal by Alberton.

This livened things up on the field, with Luso reclaiming ball possession and taking shots at goal.

For some time it seemed as though both teams wanted to round-up the fixture with a draw, as players began showing off their skills at handling the ball, instead of attacking and heading for the goal posts.

This frustrated both coaches and, after a few reprimands, the players went back to playing to win and produced some fine football.

Two more goals from Luso had them revert to a full-on defence formation, to secure the lead.

They won the fixture 3-1.

“A big well done to them, they are playing really well,” said de Silva.
