Tebbutts Academy excels

Excellence at local club.

Members of the Tebbutts Mixed Martial Arts Academy are on top form and scooping awards and medals at competitions.

“Ten of our members attended the Eastern Gauteng Championships, in April, in Brakpan, and all our members received Eastern Gauteng colours,” said the owner and head coach at the club, Master Alex Tebbutt.

“Not only did they receive their colours, but they also managed to scoop 16 medals.

”They did all of us proud and we are proud of them.”

The same members headed for the South African Championships.

“The South African Championships were held in Cape Town, on May 2 and 3, and our members again produced great results; their performance was excellent,” said Tebbutt.

He added that the members received eight medals.

“I congratulate Hannah Wedel on her performance; she received her South African Protea colours,” he said.

“This was after she won three rounds in continuous fighting against an athlete from the Canada club.

“She is an outstanding athlete.

“We sent 11 of our little ones to the Tiny Titans competition, that was also held in Brakpan, in April,” said Tebbutt.

“They also made us proud and brought home 21 medals – even our small ones excel.”

“These results just go to show that the club is doing well; it doesn’t matter where we go, we do well, we excel and we deliver champions.”

Another interesting development is that the club now has its own Combi.

“This is great, because we can now travel to competitions together,” Tebbutt said.

“This has helped us a lot, as we are also able to bond before competitions.”

In other news, the club members are preparing for their Big Black Belt Grading, in July, which will be a weekend camp.

“The only thing I can say about the grading is that you have to work hard for your black belt, otherwise you don’t get it,” Tebbutt said.

“We are also preparing for a tournament we will host on October 2 and 3, in Brakpan.

“Any club is welcome to come and take part in this event.

“Despite the tournaments we are hosting, we still have other competitions for which we are training hard.”
